“High Horse’s Courting”

Now it is time for something completely different...ready? This time I don’t want analysis. I want instead for you to retell the story. Take the main characters, give them new names and set them in the world today. Then take a small portion of the story and retell it as if it happened today. Remember to retain the spirit and idea of the tale, just with modern details. Have some fun with this.

  1. So this is a story of boy wants girl. This is a story of new boy in school wants girl. See New Boy, on his first day at a new school, spots this cute girl. However Cute Girl is very... ignorant of New Boy's gawking. She is long used to the gawking, one more boy really doesn't concern her. And so this first day began a morning routine for New Boy. New Boy would go to his locker, stand there and look at Cute Girl, whose locker was right across the hall from his.
This went on for a few weeks until someone noticed New Boy's staring. The observant man- gossip Wing Man noticed New Boy's tragic obsession. Wing Man befriended and encouraged New Boy to pursue Cute Girl. Despite the fact that it was public knowledge that both she was completely indifferent of his existence. Not to mention the fact that Her Father was an former military man and rumor had it that he busted up a kid's car that had been messaging her on IM.
"Here I have her cell number," Wing Man offered. "Take it and just start talking to her." So that's what New Boy did. He put her number in his phone and when he worked up the guts, he texted her. And when she responded and said she was pretty sure she knew who he was, they texted for little while and then she said good bye. Well this only encouraged him and so he texted Cute Girl again that night, and every night after that for a week. New Boy texted Cute Girl poetic things and told her all he felt when he was texting her. And she would respond that she like him too. However she was still ignoring him in the halls. He didn't understand why this was, and he was becoming more and more worried every day.
"Steal her purse!" said Wing Man. "Steal her purse and bring it back the next day saying you found it. She'll be so grateful and excited that she got it back she'll start talking to you in person." But poor little New Boy didn't have the guts to take her purse so he just kept texting her. Until one day New Boy texted Cute Girl and got no response. So he tried again the next day to no avail. And so on the third day he was so freaked that he got Wing Man and they went to her house. Wing Man, (for some unknown reason,) not only knew where she lived, but which window was hers.
So with Wing Man's help, New Boy climbed up to Cute Girl's window. Her Father was standing at the window. He was the kind of guy you wouldn't want to go after unless you had a billy club... or a gun.... or a truck. But as New Boy hung from her window sills by his skinny arms, he was shocked as Her Father pulled him in with one arm and smiled at him. "Finally someone that likes my little girl acts like they got a pair!" And so with Her Father's approval New Boy hung out with Cute Girl. The End.

  2. So the young marketer walked into the firm and by his new boss's office and something caught his eye, the beautiful young woman on the leather couch just inside the spacious office. He couldn't help but stop and stare to the point of the woman noticing and giving an embarrassed stare back. His boss stopped writing and looked up with a killing stare and said in a stern voice "No." So the young man quickly scrambled away. An hour later the woman emerged from the office and was quickly joined by the young man asking a barrage of questions. His boss again pushed the young man away and told his daughter to continue on walking. The young man tells his boss he has a plan to make the firm millions of more dollars in the market and will tell his boss how as long as he is allowed to talk to his daughter. The boss then says there is no such way to improve the firm's profit by that much and tells him to stay away from his daughter. The young man for weeks keeps thinking about his boss's beautiful daughter. The young man realizes that he can show his boss that he can make him millions of dollars. The man starts buying and selling and merging and profiting until he has made the firm the most successful firm in the world. The young man gets promoted to being his boss's boss. He tells his old boss he will give him all of his shares in the company totaling 51% of the company as well as his position as long as he is allowed to see his daughter. The old man had no choice. His persistence paid off.

  3. Jim was sitting in his Chemistry class, but he couldn't pay attention because he was to focused on the girl sitting in front of him. Her name was Tina and she was the most beautiful girl that Jim had ever laid eyes on. For a long time he had sat in the shadows, but he decided that it was time to take a chance. The school's homecoming dance was coming up, so he wanted to ask Tina if she would go with him. After class, Jim waited in the classroom for a few minutes and then made his way to Tina, who was talking with a group of friends at her locker. Jim asked Tina if she had a date to the dance, which he knew she didn't, and if she would consider going with him. After a few moments of silence, Tina replied that her father would not let her attend the dance and she could not go with him. Jim went home that night and couldn't help but feeling like a loser for getting turned down by Tina. He wanted her to go with him so badly and he laid awake in bed for hours that night, devising a plan to make her father change his mind. The next day, Jim was able to get Tina's cell phone number with the help of his good friend, Zach. He texted Tina that night and talked with her for hours. He told her how he was going to go to the dance with her, even if it meant that he had to sneak her out of the house. Following their conversation, Tina's father looked at Tina's phone and noticed the messages that Jim had been sending. Being an extremely protective father, he had a security system installed in Tina's room so that there would be no way that she could leave the house without him knowing. Upon discovering that this had been done, Jim was more depressed than ever and even went to bed without eating supper. He moped around the hallways in school for the next week and Zach couldn't stand seeing his friend so low. The day before the dance, Zach called up Jim and told him the plan that he had been devising over the past few days. Jim was hesitant to listen to Zach, but finally decided that he had to go to the dance with Tina, no matter what the cost. On the night of the dance, Jim drove up to Tina's house and parked his car in her driveway. He strolled up to her door, full of confidence, and rang the doorbell. Tina's father opened the door and asked what Jim was doing at their house. Jim, who was dressed handsomely in a tux and was holding a bouquet of flowers, took a step into the room and said that he was there to take Tina to the dance. Jim explained how she was the most beautiful girl that he had ever seen and said that she deserved to go to the dance and have fun. The father was shocked at first, listening to a high schooler confront him in such a manner, but nevertheless turned around to his daughter, who had been standing behind him, and told her to go upstairs and get ready because she had a dance to get to. Once Tina was ready, the two of them walked out of her house, but before they left, Tina's father stuck out his hand to shake hands with Jim and said, "Take care of her son." Jim walked towards his car with a smile on his face, knowing that he was finally going to take Tina to the dance.

  4. Once upon a time, there was a washed up boxer. He no longer could get a gig boxing, as mixed martial arts and ultimate fighting had taken the place of boxing in the hearts of the general public. This Boxer had a daughter. She was a pretty girl of seventeen, and many boys had come clamoring for her attention. Whenever a gentleman suitor came over to the house with flowers or chocolates, the Boxer stood in the open garage, pounding away at his punching bag. No matter how big or strong the boy was, they always scampered off when they saw the Boxer hammering away at what could be them. Well... they almost always scampered off. There was one Boy, skinny as a rail, who just kept coming. He showed up at their doorstep at least once a week, usually carrying a small bouquet of flowers. One time he even carried the Boxer’s daughter’s books home for her. And every time when he got there, the Boxer would punch his punching bag so hard that the garage walls shook. But the Boy kept coming. The Boy had tried to bring the Boxer some old sports magazines to appease him, but the Boxer was not easily pleased. One day when the Boy arrived, however, he did not bring flowers. What he brought were boxing gloves. As the Boxer hit his punching bag, the Boy walked towards him and cracked his knuckles. The Boxer stopped what he was doing and stepped towards the Boy. The Boy tossed off his shirt, revealing a scrawny but muscular chest.
“Don’t want to get blood on your shirt, boy,” asked the Boxer.
“Don’t want to get your blood on it, if that’s what you mean,” said the Boy.
“It doesn’t have to be like this,” the Boxer said.
“Yes it does,” the Boy replied.
The Boy put on the boxing gloves and got into a fighting stance. The Boxer put up his hands and stepped towards the Boy. They circled for a bit, but neither threw the first punch.
“Stop hesitating,” said the Boy. “Hit me.”
The Boxer tossed a half-assed jab, and the Boy ducked. The punch flew over his head, and the Boy quickly struck the Boxer’s stomach as he dodged the blow. The Boxer backed up. The Boy kept coming, pummeling the Boxer’s abdominals with blow after blow. The Boxer retaliated with a few hits to the Boy’s head. The Boy backed away momentarily.
“You’re not half bad,” said the Boxer.
    “I know,” said the Boy.
The Boxer punched at the Boy’s chest, prompting the Boy to swivel out of the way. The Boy punched the Boxer in the face, and the Boxer stumbled back. The Boy followed up with another hit, and the Boxer stepped back into the wall.
The Boy stopped advancing, took off the gloves, and put his shirt back on. He began to walk away.
“Where are you going,” asked the Boxer.
“I’m taking your daughter out to a movie,” the Boy said.
The Boxer smiled and took off his gloves.
    “Have her back by eleven.”

  5. It was Jordan's first day at his new high school. His family had moved just ten miles away from his past school...what was the point? He was very nervous, understandably. He knew nobody with the exception of his cousin Will. Will was a year older than Jordan; but they had always been close.

He had not been looking forward to this day. Although he wasn't a pessimistic person he couldn't help but know that this place was not for him. He missed seeing his friends already.

But his mood changed suddenly when he noticed his locker was directly next to the locker of a cute red headed girl. (He had always had a thing for red heads.)

"I must have her," he thought. So aloud he said, "H-heyy...I'm Jordan...I'm new here." She giggled at this a bit, closed her locker and walked away.

As he walked into Chemistry he spotted her across the room. He also spotted Will, waving him down avidly. So he figured he should sit by his cousin, which would save some embarrassment as well.
"Why are you in this class?"
"Oh, I failed...gotta take it again. But hey- we have more time to hang out man," said Will with a grin.
"Hey can I tell you something?" Jordan asked 20 slow minutes later. He had taken in none of the importance of the lesson..
    "Sure," said Will.
"I really like that girl, but she doesn't seem to like me."
"What, after four hours? Ha you're crazy."
But then Will realized his cousin really wanted and needed his help in this siutation.
"Ah, sure man, I'll help ya out. But the only problem with her..her parent's are soo overprotective. So don't try to get their approval. Just focus on getting hers, then once you two are together they will have to approve."
"Do you think that's a good idea?"
    "Yeah...just follow my plan.."

That night Will drove Jordan to Kayla's house (that was her name). "Okay Jordan, follow the plan, don't wuss out now."
"If you're sure this will work, I'll do anything."

So Jordan approached the east side of the house...placed the ladder on the side and started toward Kayla's window. He would confess his undying love to her, promise her everything she could possibly want, sweep her off her feet, descend his ladder and drive away into the night. Then the next day they would inform her parents and they would be together forever. He was so excited...

  7. I believe that i am completely incapable of writing a story so I will just describe the main plot which will be put into the stories. Scared boy likes a girl. Then he wants the girl. He gets talked to by someone else and he gets enough confidence to win her over. It doesnt work out but instead of getting completely discouraged and giving up he tries again. THen when you think everything is going to go all good for the boy again things go wrong and now you believe he has no hope at achieving his goal. But in the end you are wrong and the boy gets the girl. The end

  9. The classic story unfolded...the boy was going about his life blind until he saw HER. He thought about HER day and night, thinking up the perfect way to make HER his, yet wasting precious moments where she could slip away...a life without HER would be impossible. He would do anything...
He watched her from afar, the love from his eyes returned with surprise in hers; her cheeks became red, her lips upturned in an embarrassed smile as she walked by...he knew that she may avoid him but soon enough...
What was standing in the way? Ah the father...she was the apple of his eye...and who could blame him? but now it was the boy's turn...he would need a comrade to take on this magnificent a foe...
"he can sniff out your fear" the comrade said, "but do not be too bold and cocky like the others who have tried...he will only lock her inside, tucked safely away..."
the comrade drove the boy to her house and waited for him as he slowly approached the door...he looked up and saw her in the window, staring down at him with a faint smile...waiting...
    His strength returned.
    He knocked on the door...
The father answered. He looked surprised, but not angry...look she had his eyes it turned out. perhaps they could look on him as kindly...
The boy with a voice unwavering began "sir I would like to take your daughter out tonight..."
the comrade could not believe his eyes as the boy and girl practically leaped into the car, laughing at their luck...they didn't even see the driver as he drove them away into bliss...
